WEEK OF COMPASSION GIVING
We were fortunate to have Johnny Wray, Administrative Director of Week of Compassion, visit with us August 9th and 10th to share stories about how Week of Compassion money is used around the world to reach out to others in the name of Christ.
Through WOC we help to ensure that children suffering from disease not only receive treatment, but enjoy the benefits of a community made safer with proper sanitation and clean sources of water. We partner with a family living in hunger, offering them not just food, but the tools and training to build a sustainable source of income for themselves . . . improving their world and ours. Check out the map in the narthex which indicates locations worldwide where WOC money is being used to help respond to disasters and emergencies and to long-term, sustainable development projects.
Individual giving this year to Week of Compassion has reached $3,415 with more anticipated in the next few weeks. If you have not yet given a gift to this worthy ministry, it is not too late. Special envelopes are located at the Welcome Center or you can simply mark in the memo line of your check “Week of Compassion.”
If you gave a gift to Week of Compassion Sunday, August 10th, please contact Betty Hargraves, so that your gift amount can be added to your personal giving statement. |

Hi everyone,
When I was driving my husband into work on Monday, the weather was so lovely. I stopped by the car before getting in and just looked at the sky. It was the most perfect shade of blue. Not just blue, but that amazing-you-want-to-capture-it blue. It was quiet and peaceful. It felt |

like a gift. As the day went on, things got busy, things got noisy. You know, normal. Every so often I would think about that blue sky and quiet, and I realized that it was a gift. A reminder from God to remember the important things. I remember a Pastor from the church that I grew up in has once said, "Important things are rarely urgent, and urgent things are rarely important." I get so caught up with stuff that has to be done "NOW" that I miss out the stuff that is truly important. I pray that I will spend more time with the important, less on the "Busywork" and never forget how beautiful that blue sky was on Monday morning.
Love, JoAnne Pruitt |
